Lymphatic Drainage After Surgery
What to Expect & Why It Helps
You made it through surgery. Now comes the part nobody warns you about — the swelling, the discomfort, the waiting. If you've had a BBL, liposuction, tummy tuck, or any cosmetic or reconstructive procedure, your body has real work to do. Electro-lymphatic drainage can help it get there faster.
Why Swelling Happens After Surgery
Surgery creates trauma in your tissues — even when it's planned and precise. Your body responds with inflammation, fluid accumulation, and immune activity. This is normal and healthy. But when fluid builds up faster than your lymphatic system can clear it, you get:
- Visible swelling that may last weeks or months
- Tightness and discomfort around the surgical site
- Bruising that takes longer to fade
- A heavy, sluggish feeling throughout your body
- Delayed results — you can't see the outcome under all that fluid
Your lymphatic system is working overtime, but it wasn't designed to handle this much excess fluid on its own. That's where lymphatic drainage comes in.
How ELD Supports Post-Surgery Recovery
Electro-lymphatic drainage uses gentle, non-invasive technology to:
- Reduce swelling faster — by mobilizing trapped fluid and routing it toward your lymph nodes for processing
- Decrease bruising — improved circulation helps your body reabsorb blood pooling under the skin
- Lower infection risk — better lymph flow means your immune system can do its job more effectively
- Relieve discomfort — less fluid pressure means less tightness and pain
- Improve your results — the sooner swelling goes down, the sooner you see the outcome you were hoping for
When to Start After Surgery
Every procedure is different, but here's a general guideline:
- BBL / Liposuction — Many surgeons recommend starting lymphatic drainage within 3–5 days post-op
- Tummy tuck — Typically after drain removal, usually 1–2 weeks post-op
- Breast augmentation / reduction — Usually safe to begin 1–2 weeks after surgery
- Facelift / rhinoplasty — Gentle facial drainage can begin within a week for many patients
Always check with your surgeon first. I'm happy to coordinate with your surgical team to make sure we're supporting — not interfering with — your recovery plan.
How Many Sessions Do You Need?
For post-surgery recovery, most clients benefit from 3–6 sessions, typically scheduled:
- 2–3 sessions in the first two weeks (when swelling peaks)
- 1–2 sessions in weeks 3–4 (maintenance and continued drainage)
- Additional sessions as needed based on your body's response
Some clients feel dramatically better after just one session. Others need the full series. We'll talk about what makes sense for your specific situation.
